However when he is shot by Luther, a destructive maniac, The Warriors, a small gang from Coney Island are blamed for the death of Cyrus and The Riffs call for all the gangs to hunt down The Warriors. Now they must bop their way back to coney, while being hunted by both the cops and every gang in the city.

One of the greatest, most colorful and adrenaline packed action films ever made. I was 9 when it first came out and made a big impression on me. Very tense and fast moving film with great characters: Ajax is awesome and very funny. I've always wondered about a sequel and what would have happened if Cleon had survived. He was clearly the biggest bad-arse in the gang before Swan took overwarchief. Just look at him kicking arse with his karate moves in the park before 80,000 Riffs jump him and pound him into oblivion. The different gangs always fascinated me. Very dark and exciting film through the back alleys, subways and side streets of NY and the eerie synthesizer music only adds to the intensity. Every gang in the city wants to kill the Warriors and they always escape at the last second or kick some major arse. Walter Hill should have made more like this and 48 HRS.
Not a highly realistic or dramatic portrait of the New York gangs, but a very exiting roller coaster-ride of action, raw settings and imaginative characters. The film's opening sequence is classic and downright brilliant with NY's most vicious gangs gathering in the park. The self-acclaimed leader – Cyrus – encourages the gangs to work together and take over power. When he's suddenly killed from within the crowd, the Coney Island Warriors are immediately pointedthe betrayers. What follows is a fascinatingly shot chase through the dark and foggy NY ghettos. The Warriors encounter angry-filled gangs and fight them in typical, rough backtown settings like the Subway or the notorious Bronx. James Remar is terrificthe overactive Warrior Ajax and he receives good feedback from the rest of the cast. Plus…the music is GREAT! Easily Walter Hill's best movie and maybe it even ranks among the 10 best films of the late 70's. The cult-status of The Warriors is still increasing.
Theme of the pic, based on Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel, is a variation on countless westerns and war films. Update the setting to modern-day New York, and the avenues of escape to graffiti-emblazoned subway cars, and that’s The Warriors.

Set to be produced by MTV films with Tony Scott directing, it would share the original film's basic idea of a gang stranded outside its turf. However, it would be set on the West Coast instead of New York and take place in modern times rather than a dystopian setting. It wasn't done with the approval or participation of Walter Hill or anyone else involved with the original.<br/><br/>Since that announcement, a few minor rumors surfaced (mainly the suggestion that this would feature real gang membersextras, a persistent rumor that has not been confirmed by any official source), but no solid information has been announced by MTV or Tony Scott since the original announcement.<br/><br/>Time has passed since that announcement, and Tony Scott himself died in 2012. Nobody's heard anything about this remake in quite a while. Rembrandt (Marcelino Sánchez): the gang's graffiti artist, he wears the standard Warrior's vest along with a messenger bag and an afro.<br/><br/>8. Snow (Brian Tyler): a stoic African American Warrior with an afro.<br/><br/>9. Cowboy (Tom McKitterick): the warrior, who wears a Stetson cowboy hat and a shirt underneath his vest.<br/><br/>Cleon is murdered by the Gramercy Riffs. Ajax is arrested after attempting to sexually assault an undercover police officer. Fox is thrown in front of a train by a police officer. Mercy is the young woman whom they meet when the encounter the orphans, and she becomes and integral part of the rest of the movie. The other six (along with Mercy) Warriors make it back to Coney Island.
